THE III TASHKENT INTERNATIONAL BIENNALE OF APPLIED ARTS

biennale_dekor_prikladnoe_2021_bannerThe III Tashkent International Biennale of Applied Arts is being held this time on the theme «Contemporary Decorative-Applied Arts: Decor and Style». It will be attended by masters of applied arts and scientists from Uzbekistan and 20 foreign countries.

biennale_dekor_prikladnoe_2021-1The event will begin with a large exhibition at the Central Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan entitled «Contemporary Decorative-Applied Arts: Decor and Style». It will showcase the creative work of visiting Uzbek and foreign artists, well as the works of masters who could not come to the Biennale from abroad due to the pandemic.

biennale_dekor_prikladnoe_2021-2The Biennale will host a series of exhibitions, master classes, scientific conferences:

  1. The exhibition «Calligraphy, painting, miniature: heritage and modernity» will be presented at the Museum of Oriental Miniature Art named after Kamoliddin Behzod. Uzbek and Iranian artists and calligraphers will take part in the exhibition. It features not only traditional miniature artists, but also masters of applied art in modern interpretations based on miniature traditions — tapestries for modern interiors.
  2. International scientific-practical conference «Artistic language of modern decorat — applied arts» will be held in the conference hall of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan. It will be attended by local and foreign scientists. The conference will be held both offline and online. It discusses the processes taking place in modern applied and decorative arts, methodological research, patterns and decorative issues.
  3. The exhibition «From the history of decorative-applied arts of Uzbekistan» in the Tashkent House of Photography is organized on the basis of materials of the Central Archive of Cinema-foto-fono Documents of Uzbekistan. About 90 black-and-white photographs show the works of famous masters of applied and decorative arts, who previously worked in Uzbekistan. Many of these photos have not been published before.
  4. At the International Caravanserai named after Ikuyo Hiroyama in the exhibitions «Modern Japanese decorative-applied arts», «Modern ganch: the work of Tashkent masters» will be presented works of Japanese puppet masters, enamel, jewelry, textile masters . The exhibition also includes paintings by Tashkent potters and photos of famous masters working in the modern process.
  5. The Gallery of Contemporary Fine Arts of Uzbekistan will open three exhibitions at the same time: 1. «Fantasies implemented in clay». 2. «Contemporary jewelry art: development trends.» 3. «Poetics of applied and decorative arts in contemporary art». The first will feature new works by famous Uzbek potters, the second will feature works by Uzbek, Tajik, Swedish and Kazakh jewelers, and the third will feature projects by Uzbek and Australian artists inspired by the traditions of applied art.

biennale_dekor_prikladnoe_2021-3As part of the event, foreign guests will visit the sights of Samarkand. Cultural events will continue at the Samarkand Branch Gallery of the Artists’ Union of Uzbekistan and the Chorsu Gallery.

biennale_dekor_prikladnoe_2021-5The master classes will be conducted by Uzbek, Australian and Russian masters of applied arts. They provide knowledge and skills in the fields of applied and decorative arts such as wood carving, miniature, calligraphy, and pottery. The event will end with a fashion show of the National Institute of Art and Design named after Kamoliddin Behzod and the Republican Specialized School named after Pavel Benkov.
